We provide legal aid services, private investigations, and counselling, legal representation in courts of law by competent advocates, legal advice and documentation within the local communities.

In view of legal aid as central in providing access to justice by ensuring equality before the law, the right to counsel and the right to a fair trial, thus we have provided legal assistance to persons who are unable to afford the costs of legal representation.

By this we enlighten local persons/communities of their legal rights as inherent by a virtue of their existence and not granted by anyone be it the state, we impart legal knowledge to the vulnerable local persons through open sensitization meetings, we conduct public dialogue on legal rights and remedies of vulnerable groups such as women, orphans, widows, elderly, children, people with disabilities and HIV infected persons,
we engage local persons on access to justice themes, where to seek redress in case you are aggrieved by either an individual or authority,

we educate ,sensitize and empower local residents to seek legal intervention in matters of land fraud ,succession of deceased’s estate, distribution of deceased’s estate, child neglect,labour complaints ,domestic violence and violation of rights on basis of gender.

We organize regular sensitization workshops and group awareness campaigns in consultation with local leaders in target areas on promotion of legal rights and access to justice for the poor, vulnerable and indigent persons/communities.

Further we process legal documents like caveats on land titles and petitions for letters of administration, land titles, letters of administration, tenants’ agreements, memorandum and articles of association, affidavits, constitutions for CBOs and any other legal document for the poor, vulnerable and indigent persons at no cost.

We regularly engage and train local council courts on implementation of local council act 2006, and we also encourage and train local leaders on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) to mediate and resolve disputes within their jurisdiction amicably.

CJAF-UG has always  encouraged  dialogue  between any conflicting or disputing  parties with a target  to enable them  come up  with a perfect memorandum of understanding  thus resolving conflicts/disputes  amicably to the satisfactory  of all parties involved.

We have a professional  legal team at our legal aid chambers  involved in the provision of legal guidance and helps in the process of any sort of legal documentation that may be required at all levels  to the poor vulnerable and indigent persons those that cannot afford to hire lawyers in private practice with  no-costs involved, i.e,this team has severally appeared in courts of law ranging from chief magistrate’s courts, high courts and court of appeal in Uganda in full representation of vulnerable ,poor and indigent persons in different matters both civil and criminal wherein our clients have appreciated our services and a number of cases adjudicated in our clients favor.

To supplement sharing of our activities with the communities, we employ means of modern communication and access to information for example use of local radio stations, local newspapers, special publications, use of worldwide web (Internet) and face book. Our research and baseline survey team aids us in realizing the community’s needs.

 We have ably disseminated information on access to justice for the poor and vulnerable persons, human/land rights, social justice, civic rights, domestic violence and petty corruption to the local communities in the variety of local languages to benefit all community segments.

Our activities and focus on legal rights has impacted and effected change on legal rights in the areas of concern as cited in our annual reports.
